A simple Do-it-yourself Onion Soup Mix that is a wonderful substitute for the boxed Dried Onion Soup Mix! To use in dips, casseroles, dressings, and seasoning. Ditch the box! Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I am ready to cook, eat, munch and repeat! It is only 10 days away, but who’s counting! I am looking forward to the fragrant candles, hanging out in the kitchen to cook, baking with holiday music and having a football game on. We don’t have family in the area and my youngest has special needs. Most of the time traveling or having tons of guests are out of the question. He would probably ask them to leave when he was done seeing them for 15 minutes. But don’t take it personally, that is the way he rolls! I try to come up with all sorts of ideas for families with picky eaters. Simple is the key!
Our dinner this year will be simple yet wonderfully yummy. I prepare and cook everything. If it seems like a daunting task, it’s not. I totally enjoy it. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for cooking. Also if I can get my kids involved, even better.
That is why I am posting this recipe on Onion Soup Mix. No worries about the ingredients. They are simple, straightforward and no other stuff that requires you to know a second language. Just spices. It is simple, quick, and great for kids to dip with chips. If your kids are not fans of onion dip, no worries. There is always Ranch. My kids put Ranch on everything. I am not forgetting the adults. Onion Dip and Chips are like a staple on Thanksgiving. But it can be used in casseroles as well like Pot Roast. Sprinkle on potatoes before you cook them. The possibilities are quite endless!
The Onion Soup Mix is quite simple to make: In a small glass bottle, or preferably one that’s hermetically sealed, and safe from bugs like those annoying pantry moths, add dried Minced Onion Flakes, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Paprika, Parsley, Kosher Salt, and Sugar. This one pictured is the jar purchased at Target. I feel like I am in a Sci-Fi movie using the word hermetically, where the plans for world domination are hermetically sealed a glass container and unless we obtain those plans we are doomed. I am such a Geek. Back to reality.
Using a small spoon stir all together in the container and you are ready to use it for a variety of food. If you like the chalkboard labels I used on my jar, I found them on Amazon and they even include an entire set of colored chalk markers!
